Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a chemical substance that the body needs for bone growth. The two main forms of Vitamin D are Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3.

A deficiency of Vitamin D can cause Rickets, a disease that makes the bones soft, deformed and weak. Due to this, various official health organizations have set a minimum amount of Vitamin D that the body needs to prevent Rickets.

There are many benefits that the body receives with the intake of Vitamin D.  For the proper functionality and maintenance of organ systems, Vitamin D is crucial.  It helps in the absorption

of food from the intestines and this in turn ensures adequate phosphorus and calcium levels in the blood are maintained.

It also helps in the re-absorption of calcium from the kidneys. This ensures adequate levels of minerals are present in the bones and also prevents “hypocalcemic tetany”.  Vitamin D is also vital for bone remodeling and growth.

If a person used blood thinners that disrupt the metabolism of Vitamin K or does not get sufficient Vitamin K, Vitamin D steps in and helps the calcification of soft tissue.   Vitamin D also helps in anti-tumor activity and phagocytosis.
